Tovar Printing, Inc., a family-owned business in El Paso, Texas, has a rich history that dates back to 1947. Founded by Jose and Jesus Ruiz as Ruiz Brothers Printing Co., the company underwent several transformations over the decades, eventually evolving into Tovar Printing under the leadership of Jose's grandson, David Tovar, and his wife, Noemi.

The Ruiz family's commitment to providing quality printing services has been a cornerstone of their business for generations. Jose's dedication to doing whatever it takes to keep the company going was evident when impending highway construction forced him to purchase their first building and relocate the business.

The company’s current owner and president, David Tovar, was immersed in the world of printing from a young age, apprenticing under his grandfather. After gaining extensive experience in the industry, David and Noemi established Tovar Printing in 2008. The company flourished, growing to a team of 20 and transitioning from sheet-fed offset to all-digital and large-format printing.

In 2024, Tovar Printing made a strategic investment in a Zünd G3 M-2500 digital cutter equipped with a full complement of routing, kiss-cutting/through-cutting, and creasing tools.  This decision was driven by the need to enhance production capabilities and maintain a competitive edge now and in the future.

David Tovar is particularly impressed with how easy it was to integrate the Zünd equipment in their production environment: “Everything was well organized. Each department at Zund America handled its role efficiently, from the site preview to ensuring we had the right forklift for unloading. The installation and training process went smoothly, and my training in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was so effective that I was able to train my own staff with ease.”

Integrating the Zünd G3 cutter has significantly transformed Tovar Printing's operations. They can now easily process a wide range of materials, including foamboard, coroplast, ACM, e-flute, PVC, f-flute, b-flute, vinyl, acrylic, gatorboard, and regular cover stock. The versatility of the G3 has opened new avenues for product offerings and allowed the company to meet diverse client needs.

The advanced yet user-friendly software of the Zünd G3 facilitates many production workflows by automating processes that were previously manual and very time-consuming—flipping, cutting, and scoring, for example. For creating boxes, the company uses Zünd Design Center – ZDC, an Adobe® Illustrator® plug-in that offers a wide range of parametric designs. Says Tovar: “We can now print, cut, and score our own boxes instead of outsourcing, and it also handles all our custom-shaped labels, including kiss cutting. The Zünd has made us faster on short-run orders and allowed us to bring more work in-house.”
